5,100 crore AK-203 deal on CCS' agenda before President Putin's visit to India

Russian President Vladimir Putin will be visiting India on December 6, 2021 for the Annual Summit with PM Narendra Modi. During Putinís visit, a number of pacts in the economy, defence, science & technology sectors are expected to be signed. The visit of President Putin coincides with the delivery of the first batch of the S-400 air defence systems to India by the end of 2021. S-400 air defence systems was contracted at a cost of $5.4 billion with Russia for five systems. Meanwhile media has reported that the Cabinet Committee for Security (CCS) chaired by the Prime Minister met on December 1, 2021 & had the clearance of the deal AK-203 on its agenda ahead of the visit of President Putin, although there is no official word on it. The deal is at a cost of 5,100 crores and involves the production of up to 700,000 AK-203 assault rifles at the Amethi facility, once the contract is signed.
